HISTORY

developed Permaculture Design Courses in various formats for the UK

developed a ‘blended learning’ version of the Introduction to Permaculture course, a mixture of face-to-face and online learning, with the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) funded by NIACE (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education)

run numerous ‘taster’ courses as part of the UK government’s Learning & Skills Council’s Bite-Size initiative       

run the Permaculture Plus programme with the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) in Devon and Cornwall supported by the European Social Fund

developed permaculture teacher training programmes and apprenticeships

supported Permaculture Design Course completers in their progression from Certificate to the Diploma in Permaculture Design

gained accreditation in 1997 - and revalidation in 2002 - for the Permaculture Design Course with the Open College Network South West, now being used by other permaculture teachers throughout the UK

run Permaculture Design Courses, teacher training programmes and apprenticeships in the Newly Independent States of Central and Eastern Europe each summer since 1994 - with partner organisations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Moldova and, most recently, Slovenia

contributed to Permaculture Teachers’ Guide published by the Permaculture Association (Britain) in conjunction with WWF-UK

helped develop and piloted a WEA (Workers’ Educational Association) Development Education training programme for adult educators through the ‘Bringing the World into Teaching & Learning’ project - WEA Sustainable Development Tutor Training for a Global Society - in partnership with the DEA (Development Education Association) and funded by DFID (UK government’s Department for International Development)


In the early 1990s George Sobol was co-ordinator of the Permaculture Association (Britain), a registered educational charity, running the national office with assistance from Patsy Garrard and others. For four years they also produced the bulletin Is Anybody Out There? for other permaculture designers, teachers and local groups.
